Memory cards and SSD drives use the same principle of data storage and logging.
Data is saved on NAND memory chips. The only difference is the size/capacity and the type of connection between the drive/SSD drive and the device.

Logic – As it was mentioned before, these are some of the most common and easiest problems. In this case, the memory is not physically damaged, but the data stored on it is not recognizable, even though it occupies memory space. This is mostly caused by virus activity, malware or other unwanted software. Your data may also be lost due to formatting, partitioning and repartitioning of memory, unexpected errors during deleting, errors during reading the partition and many other errors.

Electric – Damage of the electrical components on printed circuit board (PCB) is very common after electrical shock or short circuit while inserting/ejecting the USB drive. After that, memory drive is usually not recognized by operating system or BIOS. These deficiencies can occur on any type of memory, regardless of manufacturer, model, size or quality.
In such cases, data recovery is possible only if NAND chip is not damaged, because this chip is used for data storage. If any other chip or other electronic component on PCB is damaged, the recovery chances are high.

Mechanical – it’s the hardest and most complex type of damage with the highest probability of failure in data recovery.This can lead to partial or permanent loss of data stored on the memory drive, especially if NAND chip is physically damaged or broken. This error is caused by physical damage of the memory drive.

The most common causes of data loss:

  • Errors in the electrical network/power supply, voltage fluctuations and voltage peaks;
  • Rewriting and/or deleting;
  • Mechanical malfunction/damage;
  • Accidents(e.g., fire, flood, etc.);
  • Computer viruses/malware
  • Human error;

Symptoms for memory drives:

  • LED light is constantly on, but the memory is not detected;
  • Data reading/writing takes too long (or even “forever”);
  • Memory is visible on the computer, but there is no data on it;

Symptoms for SSD:

  • Operating system errors;
  • Data reading/writing takes too long (or even “forever”);
  • HDD isn’t recognized by BIOS and the operating system;
